Rock the rocks!

Our Lowelifes’ Volunteers have made great progress on the Condor Peak trail since restoration began in 2019. The lower section of trail has seen a large increase in regular use by hikers and mountain bikers. Online reviews of the trail […]

Lowelifes Respectable Roots

A mountain bike ride likely spawned the idea to create the Lowelifes Respectable Citizens Club. Maybe it came while flowing through a steep, rocky & technical descent. But more likely it was born during a tough, relentless climb in the […]

Building the Brushing Tool Kit

Earlier this Spring, thanks to generous donations, Lowelifes picked up new electric trimmers for future trail work! Lightweight but powerful, these electric Stihl hedge trimmers are excellent for remote brushing. Electric tools have developed into fantastic assets for trail work. […]

Thank you, Robert Axle Project!

Lowelifes trail work commonly involves traveling by bicycle along remote single track. Getting tools out there can be a serious challenge. Using bicycle trailers has become essential to our volunteer work. Attaching our BOB Ibex trailers to modern thru axle […]

Recently @lowelifesrcc president @gotukus had the Recently @lowelifesrcc president @gotukus had the pleasure of showing @mtbchriso around Chilao.

We met Chris back in 2018 when he instructed a trail summit for the Angeles National Forest that many local trail crews got to attend. Since then the quality of work getting done on the Angeles has noticeably improved. Chris’ teaching methodology empowers you, inspires you, and his message is easy to understand all the while being the most humble guy ever even though he absolutely rips on a bike. Then when you realize all the adversity he has faced you realize how much you gotta step up your game. Y’all should follow him and read up on all his amazing talents ranging from building bike parks to building custom orthotics with a lot of other skills in between.

Here’s his GoPro footage of us sending the “whale tail” line on Mt Hillyer which by the way... he also restores whale bones for a museum. No joke!

It was fun to talk trails with Chris and about some of our exciting plans to improve recreation and expand stewardship at Chilao. People are still installing new water bars at Chilao and modifying switchbacks with rock steps that exacerbate erosion and degrade the trail user experience (they obviously didn’t attend the 2018 trail summit). I have also personally seen “booby traps” put out for mountain bikers on Silver Mocassin (swipe to see)!

We love Chris and hope to cross paths with him as often as we can!

Some crazy BEFORE and AFTER action on Condor Peak Some crazy BEFORE and AFTER action on Condor Peak Trail. This project site is not complete yet, but WOW! What a difference!! 1st pic is from a scouting mission back in Nov 2019 and the 2nd photo is from this past Sunday.

On December 8th the Angeles National Forest asked all volunteers to “stand down immediately” due to the rising levels of COVID-19. We are sad that we have been shut down once again but we are supportive of the decisions the @u.s.forestservice makes.

We will continue to plan, fundraise, and purchase the tools we need for what’s up ahead on the restoration project. The 2.5 miles of trail ahead is littered with slides and rockfall and is a VERY long ways from the Big T trailhead. Some exciting stuff coming up for the holidays so stay tuned!
Hella distanced and hella good times! We almost fi Hella distanced and hella good times! We almost finished the big project at the first spring crossing. The bottom 4.2 miles of the Condor Peak Trail are looking real good and the ride back down was ripping! We highly recommend checking it out. Special thanks to the new volunteers who came out @barnaby_jones_dls @mitch_craig_ @brndngcmrn @chromalloy @runhard12341 and Brant!!

@mossbeach crossing the “land bridge.” About 3 @mossbeach crossing the “land bridge.” About 3.25 miles from Big T, the trail crosses this isthmus-like narrow section of ridgeline as you exit Vogel Cyn and enter Fusier. This is where the backcountry adventure really begins. Past here, you traverse the exposed and rocky Fusier Cyn then claw your way out of it on the south ridge of Fox Mtn. Eventually passing beneath the 5,033 foot Fox Mtn, you leave Fusier Cyn and gain the East ridge of Condor Peak. Towering above Vogel Cyn where the adventure began likely hours before, from Condor’s East ridge you will see almost every single popular peak in the San Gabriel range including Mt Baldy.

Our trail restoration has only made it about a 1/2 mile past the “land bridge.” With lots of work still needed, we still encourage you to get out there and adventure as far as you can! The ride down from the “land bridge” is a rip!! 🌊🏄‍♀️🎉
Would you consider donating to an all-volunteer 50 Would you consider donating to an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit dedicated to the recovery and improvement of public lands? We can use your help.

Restoring road and trail infrastructure within the 2020 #bobcatfire BURN ZONE is going to be expensive and a lot of work. LoWeLIFES is anxious to get to work on some of the heavily impacted trails like Gabrielino, Silver Moccasin, and Valley Forge that we have already spent so much time maintaining. The last work we did before the March shutdowns and temporary freeze on volunteer operations in the Angeles NF was chainsawing the dozens of down trees blocking Valley Forge and Gabrielino from heavy winter storms. Our current restoration on the 10 mile Condor Peak Trail has been expensive and we will need all the help we can get to finish and to be ready to mobilize for the Bobcat Fire restorations.

Hit the Linktree in our Instagram bio to connect with ways to help out our grassroots trail stewardship organization! Thank you to ALL that have helped in ANY way so far and hope to see you on the trails!!
